Watch “The Road to Road America” with Jack Rawles
Watch Part One of this two-part series as Jack Rawles travels from the UK to the USA, on his way to Road America and Conclave 2024!
Door County Artist Rick BRawner
This painting is titled “Vintage Road America” will be offered in the Conclave 2024 Live Auction on Tuesday evening, September 17, 2024. It’s an 18×24” oil on canvas. The painting depicts Road America’s first race on the new track in 1955 featuring vintage Austin Healey’s as the frontrunners. Hopefully, the painting will give its viewers a taste of the same thrill the drivers and spectators must have felt with these grand old cars rushing by at almost a 100 miles an hour!
Rick Brawner is an award-winning artist oil painter and resident of Fish Creek, WI. Rick is an Army Veteran who served in Vietnam and is an avid vintage sports car enthusiast previously owning an Austin Healy 100-4, Sprite, Alfa Romeo Giulletta and a Mercedes 180SL. He’s a graduate of the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD), where he earned a BFA in Industrial Design. Over his career, he worked for Brooks Stevens and was on the design team working on some of the last Studebakers and on the early Excaliburs. Check out his work at RickBrawner.com.

He competes in historic racing, driving competitively with Bill Rawles Classic Cars-prepared machinery with a number of race wins, podium finishes, and records to his name.
THOMAS KOVACS
Tom Kovacs first restoration was his own Healey – a 1958 100-6, which took three years to finish while he worked as a jeweler full time. He took that Healey to the first national conclave held in Bloomington, Indiana in 1976. Fourintune Garages, Inc. has evolved since then and now does primarily full restorations on Austin Healeys and major service work – especially this year with the national conclave spending a full day at Road America. During the 1990 Challenge Series, he met Geoff Healey and then Roger Menadue, who served as Chief Experimental Engineer for Donald Healey’s company. Tom will be sharing stories and memories of both Geoff and Roger, discussing the restoration of two FAC works cars, and the three 100S cars at his tech session on Tuesday afternoon at this year’s conclave.
Conclave 2024 Celebrates the history of Elkhart Lake Road Racing – 1950-1952
Two historic race circuits around Elkhart Lake will take you around the corners and over the hills once traveled at high speed by the world’s top sports car drivers. Fourteen historical markers are placed around Elkhart Lake’s historic open-road sports car racing circuits to commemorate the big names and the big events that occurred here between 1950 and 1952.
The 1950 races, held on the 3.35-mile circuit north of the lake, had the flavor of a typical club event. All the drivers and cars came out of the Chicago Region and most cars were driven to the event, raced and then driven home. The event took place on Sunday, July 23rd and five races were held with cars divided into two classes: under 1500cc and over 1500cc. Two 30-mile races for novice drivers were held, one in each class. A novice driver was defined as one who had never finished higher than fifth in any open road race. The novice races were followed by a 15-mile ladies race that combined both classes. The day was concluded with two 60-mile races for experienced drivers, one in each class. The event was very successful with an estimated 5,000 spectators in attendance.
Join fellow Healey owners, drivers, enthusiasts, and Healey racers from across the globe for a weekend of exciting Healey experiences. Be part of the Healey World Challenge with VSCDA’s Ariens Art on Wheels vintage races. This will be a great fall vintage racing and Healey Festival weekend at Road America. Register today as space at some events are limited.
